President Stephanie Jaster called the Spring Grove School Board meeting to order at 7:02 p.m. on June 16.

The meeting began with the oath of office administered to newly appointed board member Ashley Olson.

All board members were present, including President Jaster, Myriah Klug, Kelly Rohland, Lisa Myhre, Rhan Flatin and Ashley Olson.

A motion by Rohland, seconded by Klug, was made to approve the consent agenda, which included the meeting agenda, minutes from the regularly scheduled May 29 board meeting, the treasurer’s report, payments, and Q Comp Annual Report.

The approved 2025-26 athletic coaching staff includes:

•Volleyball: Kelsey Morken, Lexi Thorson, Jordan Anderson

•Football: Kody Moore, Aric Elton, Kaare Sanness, Brian Anderson, Ty Cleven

•Girls basketball: Taylor Elton, Erin Konkel, Jess Sherburne

•Boys basketball: Dakotah Rostad, Aric Elton, Daniel Eiken, Tim Morken

•Softball: Kelsy Morken and Taylor Elton

•Baseball: Chris Strinmoen, Phil Griffin, Ty Cleven

Also on the consent agenda were the 2025-26 proposed fundraisers, which were approved: Heggies Pizza, Super Saver Cards, Launch-a-Thon, Homecoming Coronation Admission, Hat Days, Kwik Trip SCRIP, coffee/tea and gift certificates, dessert theater, improv/mystery show, Butter Braids/Puffins, fruit sales, cookie dough sales, clothing apparel webstore, $1.00 raffles, candy bar sales, house tours, prom viewing admission, Uffda Fest, cookie kits, dueling pianos, frozen food sales, flower sales, Red’s Dinner, volleyball/basketball concessions, senior raffle, yearbook sales, ad sales, healthy holiday treat sales, carnation sales, Love Your Melon hats, and cancer awareness match.

Approved personnel contracts include K-12 Principal Matt Rosaaen; Director of Special Projects Rachel Udstuen; and for Instrumental Music, Ethan Papenfuss.

Superintendent Rachel Udstuen provided an enthusiastic update on the ongoing construction project. She offered board members a post-meeting tour of the site, stating, “It is pretty, pretty fun around here right now.” She noted that a construction video would be uploaded to the school website homepage and Facebook page on Tuesday.

Udstuen shared that the CTE building, which is part of phase one, is slated to be completed by July 21. The second floor in the main building, which is phase two, is ahead of schedule; kitchen is slightly behind schedule. If all goes as planned, the school will take over the space on August 18, which will give the school a week to move back in before teacher workshops that start the following week, followed by the return of students the following week.

Due to the unexpected abatement costs, the majority of the $525,000 contingency fund has been used. The remaining $25,000 will be split up for contingencies, motel lot, and softball field.

Outgoing Principal Luke Kjelland attended his final school board meeting. In his closing remarks, he thanked the board for their support over the past five years and offered high praise for incoming principal Matt Rosaaen, stating “You are in good hands.”

The board reviewed and discussed the proposed 2025-26 budget which was motioned by Rohland, seconded by Flatin, as well as the 10-Year Long Term Facilities Maintenance Plan, which was approved following a motion by Olson and a second by Myhre and a roll call vote – Myhre, Flatin, Klug, Rohland, Jaster, Olson.

The local literacy plan was moved from the consent agenda for separate discussion. Klug made the motion to approve the plan with Rohland seconding.

The board identified Superintendent Gina Morken as the Official with Authority for the MDE External User Access Recertification System. Flatin, Klug roll call vote. Olson, Jaster, Myhre, Rohland, Flatin, Klug.
