At the July 9 Peterson City Council meeting, Councilor Gail Boyum asked the city to post some no parking signs on the street past the museum and the memorial garden. In the past, guests at Geneva’s Hideaway parked next to the lodging. Now some people have been parking regularly on Centennial Street alongside the museum and memorial garden. As a result, the view of the newly created garden is blocked.
The council turned to PWD employees Jeff Rein and Chris Grindland for their opinion. Grindland commented that he felt it would be a good idea to establish that area as no parking. He shared that he had not been able to get into the garden to mow recently because vehicles were parked in front of it.
Grindland and Rein were directed to get two signs stating that there was to be no parking between the two signs and post them.
After approving previous minutes, disbursements and receipts with no discussion, the council approved the cooperative agreement with the State of Minnesota. This agreement reinforces what the city has always done to maintain the bike trail. While the state reimbursement for the upkeep is relatively small, the council agreed that it helps. Having the duties of the city spelled out in a written agreement clarifies the cooperative effort,
The council approved several transfers of funds. Part-time City Clerk Chris Grindland explained the transfers. Annually, the city transfers $10,833 from the sewer fund to a separate account earmarked for major sewer replacements as needed. $20,000 was transferred from the sewer fund to the bond payment fund.
Grindland informed the council that currently there was approximately $40,000 in the separate sewer account intended for major future replacements.
PWD Jeff Rein informed the council that the city had been busy grinding tree stumps. Norby Tree Service had been in town to take a tree down and did some other needed trimming while they were there.
The council asked Rein if the ordered valves had arrived yet for the sewer plant. Apparently there was a delay caused by a manufacturing or distributing hold-up. Rein reported that they have been able to get by for now as they wait for the new valves.
Councilor Tracy Seelbinder thanked Rein and Grindland for all their help during Gammel Dag.
The Peterson City Council meeting was adjourned just 15 minutes after being called to order. With all of the night’s business completed, the council went out to enjoy the beautiful summer evening.
