“Yet you do not know what tomorrow will bring. What is your life? For you are a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes.” James 4:14
I guess so!!! I went to my high school class reunion on Saturday and there were a bunch of old people there! A get together to celebrate (if that’s the right term) 45 years. 45 YEARS! Man, it’s hard to believe. Most I hadn’t seen in 45. Did I tell you it’s been 45 YEARS!? Where did the time go?
The Bible talks a lot about time. Of course Solomon wrote, “For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven: a time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up what is planted; a time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up; a time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance; a time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing;”
The Apostle Paul said, “Be very careful then how you live, not as unwise but as wise, making the best use of the time, because the days are evil.” He told the Colossian Church, “Walk in wisdom toward outsiders, making the best use of the time.” Moses, in Psalm 90, challenges us, “So teach us to number our days that we may get a heart of wisdom.”
Time flies! That’s for sure and another surety is that none of us are guaranteed a certain amount of it. Any of us can be here today and gone tomorrow. Jesus mentions time in Mark 13:35-37, “Therefore keep watch because you do not know when the owner of the house will come back – whether in the evening, or at midnight, or when the rooster crows, or at dawn. If he comes suddenly, do not let him find you sleeping. What I say to you, I say to everyone: “Watch!” Time flies, how are we using it? Who are we living it for?
