Each year, our team at the newspaper discusses ways in which we can create more story sharing opportunities for the sake of our readers and advertisers.
We discuss the presentation of the content, story selection ideas, and how we can involve the supportive and connected business community.
Over the years, we’ve introduced a regular feature titled “Farm Families,” focused on the heritage of local farm families. As we have published these stories, we’ve had many families request their full page story to be framed for a keepsake to display in their home.
We also recently launched a feature titled “Community Builders,” shining a spotlight on new businesses and businesses celebrating milestone anniversaries. These present opportunities for communities to celebrate successes together. We recently recognized Granny’s Liquor in Lanesboro for their 10 year anniversary along with recognizing The Boutique Station in Peterson for their five-year anniversary.
There will be many more “Community Builders” features in the near future, because there’s been a lot of activity in our region.
In today’s newspaper, you’ll notice another new feature on page 3 focused on “Arts & Entertainment.”
Our first Arts & Entertainment feature puts a spotlight on Greta Kunene of Fountain, Minn.
A couple of months ago, her mother, Brenda, shared one of her performances from her YouTube channel on social media. When my wife and I heard Greta sing “Cabaret,” we were amazed at her voice and talent.
Greta’s story is certainly inspiring, especially for young artists exploring opportunities to enhance their talents. She has found her passion, and we look forward to seeing her make big things happen as she embarks upon her journey after high school graduation. So, check out her story and her YouTube channel.
Our goal is to make the Arts & Entertainment feature a monthly spotlight on local artists. It could be a high schooler like Greta. It could be an artist who creates pottery, paintings or other creations. It could be a musician or a band with local performers.
If you feel someone should be considered for the Arts & Entertainment feature, please send us an e-mail at news@fillmorecountyjournal.com or call us 507-765-2151.
