The history of the Fillmore County Journal would not be complete without mentioning the impact of one key employee that worked for all three newspaper owners.
Sherry Hines, who resides in Harmony, Minn., started working for the Journal in 1986, just one year after its inception. She worked in advertising sales for the Fillmore County Journal and Visit Bluff Country Magazine until she retired in 2021. That’s 35 years. She was a relationship-builder, helping communities thrive by getting people to work together to promote their individual businesses while also promoting their communities as a whole.
There are not many employees who have worked for a company for 35 years, let alone spanning a change of ownership three times. Sherry was a champion for the newspaper and the communities she represented. When she told me she was thinking about retiring, I said, “Please give me at least a two-year notice,” to which she laughed. I told her it would take me at least that long to find someone to follow in her footsteps.
Fortunately, she helped us through the transition. And, now she is enjoying retirement with her husband Steve.
Thanks again, Sherry! You were a part of this from the beginning.
