Each day competing messages demand our attention. Our response often depends upon our relationship with the source. Believing everything from some sources and rejecting everything from other sources can weaken our sense of community. It becomes easy to wonder who to trust.
To encourage healthier relationships and healthier communities, we invite our neighbors to join us in listening for understanding instead of arguing.
Three old filters remind us of the importance of speaking thoughtfully:
- Is it true?
- Is it fair?
- Is it necessary?
Especially when information flies around us willy-nilly, we can build trust by thinking before we speak.
Trust leads to healthier communities that can welcome all the various peoples who might choose to work and live among us.
