To the Editor,
When we had our spring time in February, I saw Bonita Underbakke picking up road trash along Highway #139 between the cemetery south of Harmony and the cave road. This is no responsibility of hers, so I asked her why. “Just to make driving along the road more beautiful,” was her reply. She had picked up many, many bags full. When I was still able, I did the pickup along my road, 120th St.
Now this was the local winter traffic, not tourists going to the cave. So I am wondering and asking if the local folks can’t be more concerned and careful and neat. It’s not too much to ask, We have good trash collecting in Harmony and trash cans all over. Please consider this and keep our roadsides neat. During the summer tourist time, this will be noticed and appreciated.
I have learned that when people see trash, they are much more apt throw more trash; when they don’t see it, they won’t throw it.
It would be fine if Fillmore County would become “the clean roadside county in Minnesota.” Let’s give it a try.
