Letter about Fillmore Central vote…

November 3, 2025 by Commentary Submissions Leave a Comment

Fillmore County Journal - Weekly Newspaper Serving Southeast Minnesota's Bluff Country - Letter to the Editor

To the Editor,

Everyone please note this date: November 4, 2025. That’s when you should get out and vote for the children of Fillmore Central schools. You can vote in Preston at 700 Chatfield St. or Harmony Community building at 225 3rd Ave. SW. Polls are open from 3-8 p.m. Up for a vote is the following referendum. To increase the school district’s general education revenue by $876 per pupil. Any additional increases over the next 10 years will be based on the rate of inflation.

If approved, your property taxes will increase 0.10477% based on the value of your home. The average selling price of a home in Fillmore County is $248,000 as per realtor.com. So, the average property tax bill would increase around $260 the first year and then the following years the average home property tax would be 0.10477% of the current value of your home plus any increase in inflation. I’ve listed above the average home value, your increase may be higher or lower depending on the value of your home.

Our schools would not ask for the increase if it wasn’t truly needed, so see you at the polls and remember, “It’s for the children.”
