The trial charging Adam Fravel with murder is set to begin October 7, marking 16 months since Madeline Kingsbury’s body was discovered along Highway 43 between Mabel and Rushford, Minn.
In June 2024, Zachary Bauer, the attorney representing Adam Fravel, sought a change of venue, citing the pre-trial publicity and community involvement as reasons for moving the trial out of Winona County, Minn.
Madeline Kingsbury, who resided in the city of Winona, disappeared on March 31, 2023. After roughly 2,000 volunteers searched for Madeline in the Fillmore County area over the course of a two-month period, her body was discovered in a culvert along Highway 43 between Rushford and Mabel on June 7, 2023.
After the discovery of Madeline’s body on June 7, Adam Fravel was arrested and charged with murder.
In January 2024, Fravel’s legal team filed a motion to have the case dismissed and move the trial out of Winona County, expressing concerns about Fravel receiving a fair trial.
Judge Nancy Buytendorp ruled in favor of a change of venue. The trial has been moved to Blue Earth County, set to begin in Mankato in October.
At the request of the prosecution and the defense, there will be no cameras allowed in the courtroom.
