At the September 9 city council meeting, approval was given to advertise for both an EDA director and a zoning administrator. Councilor Josh Broadwater was absent.
Both positions are for 30 hours per week. Both will report to the city administrator. The EDA director will primarily oversee economic development and related activities and projects. The zoning administrator will primarily oversee zoning related activities and projects.
City administrator Michele Peterson said the possible addition of both positions was discussed at the Committee of the Whole. There will be a request for applications. Peterson said they could stay where they are if suitable applications are not received.
Other Business in Brief
• Fire Chief Luke Thieke reported that firefighters are eligible for a raise in their retirement plan. The Fire Department and Public Services committee recommended a raise in the benefit level from $2,450 to $3,450 per year. The benefit level increase is for firefighters who have completed at least five years of good time service as a member of the Statewide Volunteer Firefighter Plan. The increase was approved and is effective January 1, 2025.
• Approval was given for Pay Application #6 in the amount of $46,826.86 to Killmer Electric Co., Inc. The payment is for work completed on the 2022 Water System Electrical Improvement Project. More work remains to be completed at the booster station.
• A resolution was approved accepting a donation from Rowland Well in the amount of $1,500 to be used for a CCTV Scoreboard.
• A resolution was approved for the city of Chatfield to enter into a MnDOT agreement with the state of Minnesota. The state will provide payment to the city for the state’s share of the costs of snow and ice removal on Highway 52 from Spring St. to Fifth St. within the city limits.
• Amendments to the Hilltop Estates III and IV Development Agreements were discussed regarding sidewalks and a trail. The amendments will change requirements and allow for a pedestrian path to be created to run through the developments rather than the installation of sidewalks. Language provided for the amendments was questioned, so amendments to the agreements were tabled and they will be considered at the next city council meeting.
