Caledonia City Council members gathered at city hall for their regularly scheduled meeting on Monday, June 9. The meeting was called to order at 6 p.m. followed by the Pledge of Allegiance.
Mayor Jeremy Leis and council members Robert (Bob) Klug, Amanda Ninneman, David Fitzpatrick and John Rauk were present.
City Clerk/Administrator Jake Dickson presented his annual legislative session update. He reported that he 2025 Legislative session ended on May 19, and the governor called a special session on June 9 because the budget was not passed. Eight major budgets are expected to be finalized: transportation, education, jobs, higher education, health and human services, environment, commerce, and energy. Dickson noted that close to 7,000 bills were introduced, but the governor signed only 39 chapters into law, a significant drop from 126 in 2024. He remarked that the session was not very productive this year.
The amended consent agenda was approved, with Councilor Ninneman abstaining. Items on the consent agenda included:
• Payments and disbursement totalling $82,096.80.
• Request from Mainspring to close Badger St. between E. Main St. and E. Grove St. and a temporary liquor license during the non-profit’s Art Block Party on September 20. Streets will be closed from noon to 9 p.m.
• Approval of the infrastructure repair quote including two fire hydrants, the sanitary manhole on Hackney Dr., and storm sewer repairs on W. Washington St. Zenke Inc. will perform the labor, paving contractors will be used to restore the road and sidewalk areas, and the city will purchase the material and concrete. The total cost is estimated at $74,000.
• In addition, payment request number 36 totalling $64,000 for the waste water treatment system (WWTS) was added to the agenda by Mayor Leis.
