Amish Buggy Accident – Hit and Run

Fillmore County Journal- Melartin proposes July event in Spring Valley

According to the Fillmore County Sheriff’s Office, on Friday, February 16, 2024, at approximately 10:05 p.m., the department received 911 calls indicating there was a crash in the 29000 block of County Road 1 in rural Spring Valley, Minn. The news release stated, “Initial reports indicated that a vehicle had struck and Amish buggy with several occupants. Deputies responded to the scene along with the Spring Valley Ambulance and the Spring Valley Fire Department. Upon arrival it was noted that there were nine occupants of the buggy, six of which were transported to St. Marys Hospital in Rochester with unknown injuries. The Spring Valley Ambulance was assisted by the Mayo Clinic Ambulance Service.” They were all later released.

The sheriff’s office news release indicated a deputy on the scene of the crash reported that the driver of the striking vehicle had fled the scene. The vehicle and driver were later located at a residence in the city of Spring Valley.

The Fillmore County Sheriff’s Office is being assisted by the Minnesota State Patrol to determine the cause and manner of the crash. As of press time, the accident is still under investigation and no names have been released.

This accident occurred approximately one mile from where another Amish buggy accident happened on September 28, 2023, which claimed the lives of two Amish girls.
