Eitzen Council Discusses Senior Housing Property

October 19, 2026 by Charlene Corson Selbee Leave a Comment

The Eitzen City Council met in regular session on October 13 with Mayor Jeff Adamson calling the meeting to order at 6:07 p.m.

Council members Doug Meyer, Mitch Luttchens, Emily Burrichter and Mayor Adamson were all present. Mitch Lange was not in attendance. City staff attending were city Clerk Steve Schuldt and city Maintenance Supervisor Darryl Meyer.

The council unanimously approved the minutes from the September city council meeting. The council also reviewed and approved the city’s financial statements. Schuldt confirmed, “We still have enough money to pay the bills, which is important.” Adamson noted that the past due utility bills are getting paid, and Schuldt will be going to visit a resident on Wednesday regarding their account.

Councilmember Luttchens presented the council with the quarterly financial report for the Wiegrefe Senior Housing. He said, “Obviously, we are going in the right direction, which is good.”

On behalf of Ethan Lapham, property manager, Luttchens shared a couple of updates, “All the fire alarms are pretty much end of life. They all need to be replaced.” Sprinklers need to be serviced. Supervisor Meyer said the sprinklers never been serviced.

There are three apartments available. Luttchens said, “As you can see with the financials, we don’t need to chase renters. I mean we are still going in the right direction, even though there are only five units full. All is good.”

The mayor asked if they should have a little nicer for rent sign out front, because that is the only way the city is advertise other than word of mouth. A couple of ads were put in the paper.

Mayor Adamson promised that the ticket booth project will be done by the Fourth of July.

The council tabled the Eitzen Fire Department rate structure until the November city council meeting.

Alex Goergen submitted an application for a building permit and the required fee of $100. He wants to build a 30 by 32-foot garage with nine-foot side walls, tin roof, vinyl siding on the outside walls, a couple windows, and two garage doors. It is located at  416 East Main Street. His setbacks are all good. The garage is not attached to the house. The garage will be built in the backyard. A building and tree will be removed. The permit was approved.

The council unanimously approved paying the bills before adjourning the meeting at 6:21 p.m.
