Sharone Rustad obituary, Fillmore County Journal

Sharone Patricia Rustad (Aug), 64, of Fountain, died Saturday, October 10, 2026, peacefully at home surrounded by family after a courageous battle against cancer.

Sharone was born November 13, 1961, in Rochester, Minnesota, to Conrad and Dixie (Strahl) Aug. She grew up in Preston and attended Preston High School, graduating in 1980. She was a beautiful singer and was part of the school choir, madrigal choir, and cheerleading team. After high school, she went to Winona State University for some time before attending the Mayo Clinic Nursing Program in Rochester and graduating as an LPN. She also entered beauty pageants and won Miss Rochester, and was in the top 10 finishers for Miss Minnesota. She sang “The Rose” by Bette Midler for her pageants, and it became her signature song. She lived for some time in Minneapolis, and during this time married her high school sweetheart and forever soulmate, Scott Rustad in Lake Tahoe, Nevada, on October 18, 1996. They moved back home to Fountain to raise a family; together they had Samuel and Sierra. Here she began her career as an LPN at Mayo Clinic in the ENT department, and worked there for 28 years. She was a passionate nurse and good friend to all her coworkers and patients.

Not one to shy away from a good time, she enjoyed traveling, going on our annual Disney World trips, going out with friends, listening to music, having movie nights at home, watching sports, and taking care of the birds in our yard. She had a soft spot for all animals and treasured our dogs Schroder and Summit, and our cats Sofie and Stanley. Most of all she loved spending time with her family, whether it was a quiet night at home or family trips. We went on so many adventures together around the country and the world. Disney World was her special place. Loving all things Disney, she rarely wasn’t wearing some type of Disney memorabilia. She was the light of so many people’s lives, and was truly a kind, smart, selfless, heartwarming, and always fun person. She was a wonderful wife, mother, sister and aunt; but even more so, a wonderful friend to all of us.

She is survived by her husband Scott Rustad, two children, Sam and Sierra Rustad; one brother, Dean (Tracey) Aug; brother-in-law Greg (Delayne) Rustad, nieces Kaitlynn (Aug) Falkner and Jordyn Bentson; nephews Nick and Mitch Nierenhausen, and many cousins and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents Conrad and Dixie Aug, brother Darren Aug, father and mother-in-law Duane and Donna (Graskamp) Rustad, and sisters-in-law Rita (Rustad) Nierenhausen and Teresa Rustad.

Sharone’s funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, October 16, at Christ Lutheran Church in Preston. The visitation will be held at Christ Lutheran as well from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. before the service. If you would like to wear something Disney related in memory of Sharone, she would love that.

Thank you to all the doctors and nurses who cared for her through her cancer battle. Since she was a lover of all animals, memorials are preferred to the Paws and Claws Humane Society of Rochester or to your local animal rescue organization.
