American Spirit

By Anne Doering
Harmony, MN

American spirit is more than just being patriotic on the Fourth of July by waving our flag and wearing red white and blue. The United States of America is a nation of innovative and industrious people who since the Revolutionary War have always stepped up to the challenges of our lives and country. Challenges that include making discoveries in science and medicine, defending our freedoms, expanding arts and culture, exploring space and much more. Our patriotism is evident when we participate in local or national government, educate tomorrows leaders, serve in the Armed Forces, be guardians of our parks and waterways, work to conserve our natural resources and respect the differences that combine to make a better nation.

For love of country we strive to make the United States a better place for all to preserve our right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. To have maintained our democracy for 250 years is a great accomplishment. The spirit of America is strong. Although we take pride in waving our flag and wearing its colors on the Fourth of July; wear those colors in your heart every day and let them shine in your actions. Together our spirit and dedication will sustain the greatness of America for future generations.
