At the March 24 Fillmore Central School Board meeting, Superintendent Heath Olstad noted that the fourth quarter begins on March 30 which means that the end of the school year is getting close. Attendance at the parent-teacher conferences on March 5 was nearly 100% at the elementary school. Olstad commended the staff, teachers, and parents for staying on top of good communication throughout the school year. The band and choir performances for Large Group went very well. Kudos were extended to band director Emily Hahn-Larson and choir director Sarah Holten for all of their hard work for the event. Congratulations were also extended to One Act for placing as sub section champions.
Kane Larson was congratulated for placing as section champion at the state wrestling tournament and Grant Daniels as section runner-up. The spring sports have started with 54 students registered for track and field, 33 for golf, 24 for softball, and 29 for baseball.
There are several positions to be filled in the daycare and SAC including daycare lead teacher and subs.
Mike Schibursky and Logan Walker were hired as volunteer baseball coaches, Roger Bacon as a SPED teacher for the 2026-27 school year, and Kaitlyn Scheevel and Audrey Stackhouse as SAC aides. Jackie Whitacre was hired to direct the spring play with Sarah Holten as the accompanist. Connie Berg, Amanda Thomas and Kelsey Woellert were hired as teachers for the Extended School Year, or ESY, program this summer. Ryder Witte was hired as a SEPD/ALP teacher for the 2026-2027 school year contingent on him receiving his Tier 1 licensure. A resignation was accepted from speech language pathologist Paula Birch with gratitude for her many years of dedicated service to students at Fillmore Central.
The board reviewed and approved a document from Region V Computer Services for their services and fees for 2027. Region V provides software and support for the district’s accounting and personnel management needs.
A transfer of $125 was approved from the Angel Fund to the elementary supply fee revenue account to cover supply fees for a number of elementary students.
A bid for tree removal at the elementary school in the amount of $16,300 from Gossman Dirtwork was approved. Superintendent Olstad noted that Gossman will be cutting some of the trees into boards, kiln drying them, and then donating them to the high school vocational class. The plan is to burn the remainder of the trees and brush after obtaining a permit from the city of Preston.
The board also approved a bid to replace all of the windows on the front of the section of the elementary school with the canopy entrance.
The AC should be installed in the elementary stage gym this June. Several companies have looked at the ceiling and options are still being considered for that as the paint is flaking and falling down.
