MINUTES REGULAR MEETING OF THE SCHOOL BOARD

INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT #239

The regular meeting of the Rushford-Peterson School District #239 was called to order by Chairperson Chris Grindland at 5:37 p.m. on Monday, May 17, 2021.

Members Present: Chris Grindland, Matt Helgemoe, Joyce Iverson, Jeff Michel, Bonnie Prinsen, Ken Sawle, and Amy Woxland.

Administration Present: Superintendent Jon Thompson, Jake Timm and Angela Shepard 

District Office Personnel: Laura Hahn

Motion by Iverson, seconded by Michel to adopt the agenda adding Item 6.G. Resignation of Tanya Nelson – Elementary Teacher under the consent agenda and Item 8.A. Superintendent contract revision under new business.  Motion carried unanimously. 

There were no public comments.

Motion by Prinsen, seconded by Sawle to approve the following consent agenda items: April 19, 2021 Regular Monthly Meeting Minutes, Donations in the amount of $1,500, April hand payables, wires & payroll liabilities in the amount of $294,436.23, April payroll in the amount of $292,295.40, May board bills in the amount of $159,317.57, fund summary reports; PERSONNEL:Hire of Courtney Thorman — MS/HS Agriculture Teacher

Hire of Darrin Hegland – HS Special Education Teacher, Hire of Aubrey Ingvalson – Kid’s Club Supervisor, Hire of the following Community Ed Youth Rec Coaches: Alex Ronnenberg, Thomas Ekern and Logan Skalet, Hire of Rebecca Magin – Kid’s Club Supervisor and Youth Rec Coach, Resignation of Jenny Helgemoe – JH Volleyball Coach and Resignation of Tanya Nelson – Elementary Teacher. Motion carried unanimously.

Motion by Iverson, seconded by Sawle to approve the second reading and adopt the following policies: #204 – School Board Meeting Minutes, #206 – Public Participation in School Board Meetings and Data Privacy Considerations, #207 – Public Hearings, #211 – Criminal or Civil Action Against School District. School Board Member, Employee or Student and #213 – School Board Committees. Motion carried unanimously.

Motion by Sawle, seconded by Helgemoe to rescind Policy# 808 – COVID-19 Face covering Policy. Motion carried unanimously.

Motion by Prinsen, second by Woxland to approve Superintendent Thompson’s three-year contract as presented.  Motion carried unanimously.

Motion by Prinsen, seconded by Iverson to approve the first reading of the following policies: 301 – School District Administration, 302 – Superintendent, 303 – Superintendent Selection, 304 – Superintendent Contract, Duties and Evaluation, 305 – Policy Implementation and 306 – Administrator Code of Ethics. Motion carried unanimously.

Motion by Prinsen, second by Michel to approve the Spanish Club Costa Rica trip, June 14-22, 2021.  Motion carried unanimously.

Motion by Prinsen, second by Sawle to approve the 2021-2022 contract with Hiawatha Valley Mental Health. Motion carried unanimously.

Motion by Iverson, second by Helgemoe to approve the Agreement to Reimburse for Student Membership with Hiawatha Valley Education District for the 2021-2022 school year. Motion carried unanimously. 

Motion by Prinsen, second by Sawle to approve a Go Green and Diversity Club. Volunteer Advisor will be Jacob Kramer.  Motion carried unanimously.

Motion by Michel, second by Iverson to approve the 2020-2021 budget revisions.  Motion carried unanimously. 

Superintendent Thompson presented the Superintendent’s report.

The Community Education Report, the Elementary Report, the Middle School /High Schools Report and the Activities Report were reviewed.

Moved by Michel, seconded by Iverson, to adjourn the regular meeting at 6:28 p.m.  Motion carried unanimously.
