Judith “Judy” Thomas, 78, of Spring Valley, Minn., died on Tuesday, February 28, 2017 at home.
Judy was born to Clifford and Evelyn (Edge) McCraney on August 2, 1938, in Evansdale, Iowa. Judy married Dale Thomas; they were later divorced. When Judy lived on the farm she planted a huge garden. She enjoyed canning, freezing, and cooking with the fresh vegetables she harvested. Judy was well known for her baked goods, especially her cinnamon rolls and cookies. If Judy wasn’t in her kitchen, she could be found reading a book. She was a frequent visitor to the Spring Valley Library, and had a special way of knowing which books she had read.
Judy is survived by her children Tamra (Tony) Hamlett of Clayton, Ohio; Teresa (Brad) Gruszynski of Spring Valley, Minn.; Jeff Thomas of Spring Valley, Minn.; and Kathy (Dan) Jotblad of White Bear Lake, Minn.; 12 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, sister Ellie (Bruce) Hoffman of Racine, Minn.; and her wonderful neighbors John and Darlene Vrieze, Charlie and Carol Exner, and Mychelle Christian.
She is preceded in death by her mother Evelyn (Eugene) Berning; father Clifford, and several half brothers and sisters.
