Lanesboro to receive grant funding for water infrastructure project

March 8, 2021 by Fillmore County Journal

Fillmore County Journal - Lanesboro, MN

ST. PAUL, MN –  State Senator Jeremy Miller (R-Winona) has announced that the Minnesota Public Facilities Authority (PFA) has approved a grant of more than $9 million for the city of Lanesboro for a new wastewater treatment plant. Lanesboro was one of 12 Minnesota communities selected for funding during the latest round of PFA grants, which awarded nearly $44 million for infrastructure projects across the state.

“Providing funding for water and sewer infrastructure projects continues to be a priority of mine and this grant is terrific news for the city of Lanesboro,” said Sen. Miller. “Local leaders have been working hard to address this important need in the community and I couldn’t be happier for Mayor Resseman, City Administrator Michele Peterson, members of the city council, city staff, and all Lanesboro residents.”

The city of Lanesboro was awarded $9,844,331 for the construction of a new wastewater treatment plant and demolition of the old 1938-era plant. Funding for the project comes in the form of a $5,000,000 Water Infrastructure Fund grant and a 1% Clean Water Revolving Fund loan of $4,844,331. The CWRF loan is expected to save $506,774 when compared to market-rate financing.

The Minnesota PFA provides financing and technical assistance to help communities build and maintain infrastructure that protects public health and the environment and promotes economic growth. Since its inception in 1987, the PFA has financed over $5 billion in public infrastructure projects in communities throughout Minnesota. Read more on the PFA website mn.gov/deed/pfa/.
