REGULAR MEETING OF THE SCHOOL BOARD
INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT #239
The regular meeting of the Rushford-Peterson School District #239 was called to order by Chairperson John Linder at 5:30 p.m. on Monday, September 21, 2020 at the Rushford-Peterson Schools Forum Room, 1000 Pine Meadows Lane, Rushford, MN 55971.
Members Present: Valarie Howe, Joyce Iverson, John Linder, Jeff Michel, Bonnie Prinsen & Kathy Wade
Members Absent: Chris Grindland
Administration Present: Superintendent Jon Thompson, Jake Timm and Angela Shepard
District Office Personnel: Laura Hahn
Motion by Wade, seconded by Iverson to adopt the agenda with the following additions: New Business I. Approve the 2020-2021 agreement with Hiawatha Valley Education District (HVED) J. Approve the 2020-2021 e-Learning Plan and K. Discussion regarding an email received from Matt Helgemoe. Motion carried unanimously.
There were no public comments.
Motion by Wade, seconded by Michel to approve the following consent agenda items: August 17, 2020 Regular Monthly Meeting Minutes; Donations in the amount of $13,340.06, August 2020 hand payables, wires & payroll liabilities in the amount of $254,613.95, August 2020 payroll in the amount of $252,596.63, September 2020 board bills in the amount of $157,821.69, Fund Summary Reports; PERSONNEL: Hire of Stephanie Evenson – School Nurse, Hire of Jack Culhane – Assistant Boys Basketball Coach, Hire of Terry Pelzl – Assistant Boys Basketball Coach
Hire of Amy Kelly – JV Volleyball Coach and Resignation of Tracy Knutson – Assistant Knowledge Bowl Coach.
Motion carried unanimously.
Mr. Thompson introduced Stephanie Evenson, School Nurse. Stephanie updated the board on the start of the school year.
Motion by Prinsen, seconded by Iverson to approve the certification of the proposed levy for 2020 payable 2021. Set the levy rate at the maximum. Motion carried unanimously.
Motion by Iverson, second by Prinsen to approve the first reading of the following policies: #521 – Student Disability Nondiscrimination, #526 – Hazing Prohibition, #531 – The Pledge of Allegiance and #532 – Use of Peace Officers and Crisis Teams to Remove Students with IEPs from School Grounds. Motion carried unanimously.
Motion by Wade, seconded by Iverson to approve the Notice of General Election for the upcoming School Board Election. Motion carried unanimously.
Motion by Prinsen, second by Michel to approve the purchase of 2 vans from Sugar Loaf Ford (2020 Ford Summit – White – $38,220.50 | 2020 Ford Summit – Silver – $35,771.00) with Coronavirus Relief Funding. Motion carried unanimously.
Motion by Wade, seconded by Iverson to approve the purchase of a snow blower for the tractor. Motion carried unanimously.
Mr. Thompson reviewed the current Facility Improvement Plan, projected purchases and budget.
Motion by Prinsen, seconded by Wade to approve the Co-op Agreement with Lewiston-Altura for dance. Motion carried unanimously.
Motion by Prinsen, seconded by Wade to approve the 2020-2021 wages for van drivers. Motion carried unanimously.
Fundraising for the 2020-2021 school year was discussed.
Motion by Wade, seconded by Prinsen to allow the Spanish Club to pursue a coupon book fundraiser option for this year only and re-evaluate after the 20-21 school year noting that there will be no door-to-door sales. This is applicable to all fundraising groups. Fundraising must be contact free. Motion carried unanimously.
Motion by Wade, seconded by Iverson to approve the 2020-2021 agreement with Hiawatha Valley Education District (HVED). Motion carried unanimously.
Motion by Iverson, seconded by Prinsen to approve the 2020-2021 e-Learning Plan as presented by Jake Timm. Motion carried unanimously.
There was a discussion among board members regarding an email that was received from Matt Helgemoe.
Superintendent Thompson presented the Superintendent’s report.
