OFFICAL MINUTES Chatfield Public Schools Special School Board Meeting

November 23, 2020 by Fillmore County Journal

Pursuant to due call and notice thereof, the special meeting of the School Board of Independent School District No. 227, Olmsted, Fillmore, and Winona Counties was held on Thursday, October 15, 2020 at 6:00 p.m. Others Present: Ed Harris, Randy Paulson. The meeting was called to order at 6:00 p.m. and opened with the Pledge of Allegiance. Roll call was taken with the following members present Jeffers, Isensee, Priebe, Lowrey.

Action/Discussion
This special meeting was scheduled by the Board to consider the vacant position of high school principal following Mr. Paulson’s resignation effective on October 13.
A proposal for his reemployment starting on October 19 under a restructured contract was presented by Mr. Paulson to the Board for the remainder of the 2020-2021 school year. Member Isensee moved to approve the proposal. 2nd by Member Lowrey.

Discussion ensued including confirmation that reemploying Mr. Paulson is provided for in state statute. Member Lowrey acknowledged that the proposal was lawful and common but was not comfortable with the process. Members, Jeffers, Isensee, and Priebe spoke in favor of Mr. Paulson’s proposal. Mr. Paulson and Mr. Harris clarified for the Board that it has been quite common over the years for administrators to retire through TRA when they become eligible then return to work for their district under a restructured contract.

Following discussion, a vote was called. Jeffers, Priebe, Isensee voted in favor. Lowrey voted against. Motion passed 3-1.
Adjournment

Motion to adjourn by Isensee, 2nd by Lowrey, discussion, passed 4-0.
Meeting adjourned at 6:15 pm.
