REGULAR MEETING OF THE SCHOOL BOARD
INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT #239
The regular meeting of the Rushford-Peterson School District #239 was called to order by Chairperson John Linder at 5:30 p.m. on Monday, June 15, 2020 at the Rushford-Peterson Schools Forum Room, 1000 Pine Meadows Lane, Rushford, MN 55971.
Members Present: Chris Grindland, Valarie Howe, Joyce Iverson, John Linder, Jeff Michel & Kathy Wade
Members Absent: Bonnie Prinsen
Administration Present: Superintendent Jon Thompson
District Office Personnel: Toni Oian & Laura Hahn
Motion by Wade, seconded by Iverson to adopt the agenda with the following additions to New Business: Approve the 2019-2021 contract for Lisa Lawston – Community Education Program Director, Approve the custodial contract for 2020 – 2022, Name the Fillmore County Journal as the official newspaper for the district and approve the worker’s compensation payment, payable to Dakota truck Underwriters, in the amount of $34,598. Motion carried unanimously.
There were no public comments.
Motion by Grindland, seconded by Michel to approve the following consent agenda items: May 18, 2020 Regular Monthly Meeting Minutes, May hand payables, wires & payroll liabilities in the amount of $294,252.67, May payroll in the amount of $283,508.57, June board bills in the amount of $200,745.34; Personnel – Resignations:
Joe Hatch – Assistant Boys’ Basketball Coach and Chris Drinkall – Assistant Football Coach. Motion carried unanimously.
Bonnie Prinsen arrived at 5:44 p.m.
The board reviewed bus transportation proposals that were received from Ready Bus Co and Bernard Bus. Garrett Regan of Ready Bus Co and Mike Bernard of Bernard Bus were in attendance and both briefly addressed the board.
Motion by Grindland, seconded by Wade to accept the proposal from Bernard Bus for bus transportation for the 2020-2021 and 2021-2022 school years with the option to renew for the 2022-2023 and 2023-2024 school years. With a roll call vote of 6:1, motion carries with Howe opposing.
Toni Oian presented the revisions to the 2019-2020 budget.
Motion by Prinsen, seconded by Grindland to approve the revisions to the 2019-2020 budget. Motion carried unanimously.
Toni Oian presented the 2020-2021 budget.
Motion by Iverson, seconded by Michel to adopt the 2020-2021 budget. Motion carried unanimously.
Motion by Wade, seconded by Howe to approve the 2019-2020 Q-Comp Annual Report. Motion carried unanimously.
Motion by Howe, seconded by Michel to approve the hiring of Smith Schafer to complete the audit of the 2019-2020 school year. Motion carried unanimously.
Motion by Wade, seconded by Prinsen to approve the membership with MSBA (Minnesota School Boards Association) for the 2020-2021 school year in the amount of $6,2476. Motion carried unanimously.
Chris Grindland left the meeting at 6:30 p.m.
Motion by Iverson, seconded by Wade to designate Superintendent Jon Thompson as the Identified Official with Authority for the MDE External User Access Recertification System and Laura Hahn to act as the IOwA to add and remove names only. With a roll call vote of 6:0, motion carries unanimously.
Motion by Iverson, seconded by Wade to approve the 2019-2021 contract for Lisa Lawston – Community Education Program Director. Motion carried unanimously.
Motion by Howe, seconded by Michel to approve the 2020-2022 Custodial Contract. Motion carried unanimously.
Motion by Iverson, seconded by Wade to name the Fillmore County Journal as the official newspaper of the district. Motion carried unanimously.
Motion by Michel, seconded by Prinsen to approve the worker’s compensation payment payable to Dakota Truck Underwriters in the amount of $34,598. Motion carried unanimously.
Motion by Michel, seconded by Wade to approve the COVID-19 Preparedness Plan. Motion carried unanimously.
Motion by Wade, seconded by Prinsen to approve the 2-year membership with MREA. Motion carried unanimously.
Superintendent Thompson presented the Superintendent’s report.

Motion by Iverson, seconded by Wade, to adjourn the regular meeting at 7:13 PM. Motion carried unanimously.
