“Special Olympics Minnesota believes that through sports training and competition, people with intellectual disabilities benefit physically, mentally and socially; families are strengthened; and the community at large, both through participation and observation, is united in understanding people with intellectual disabilities in an environment of equality, respect and acceptance.” (specialolympicsminnesota.org)
Fillmore County Eagles Special Olympics enjoyed State Competitions at University St. Thomas in St. Paul, Minn., June 20-23, 2019. The team participated in full court basketball where they placed first place, earning gold medals. Through Special Olympics Minnesota programming, more than 8,200 people with intellectual disabilities showcase their skills to their peers, their communities and the world. In braving their attempts, they gain new experiences and become confident and empowered by their accomplishments. As a result, they create lifelong bonds with fellow athletes, volunteers and people in their communities.
