While the girls 1A golf meet was a runaway for Fillmore Central, the boys meet was contested at the top. After Day 1, Hayfield (345) led R-P (359), Lanesboro (368), and FC (368). But the Vikings had a tough Day Two, shooting a 380. It opened the door for their nearest foe, the Trojans, to sneak past. Luke Rye’s group shot a Day Two 354 to pick up 26 strokes on the Vikings. R-P (713) claimed the 1A crown over Lanesboro (721), Hayfield (725), and FC (730). Kingsland (804) took sixth (of six complete). GMLO and Houston were incomplete.  R-P was led by Andrew Hoiness (83/77 > 160), who shot the lowest Day 2 score (77). He took third. Grady Hengel (89/89 > 178) took seventh. Carson Thompson (90/93 > 183, tied 12th place) and Ethan Bedard (97/95 > 192, 19th place) rounded out the Trojans scoring golfers. Owen Fenske (108/102 > 210) and Jackson Dvorak (111/111 > 222) round out R-P’s team.  R-P was LARP last year, and golfed AA. The meet’s top golfer was Falcon junior Jake Fishbaugher. Last year’s 1A runner-up (tie), Fishbaugher (77/79 > 156) out-did Hayfield’s Keegan Bronson (78/81 > 159) for meet medalist.  It is Fishbaugher’s third state golf qualification. He shot 157 at sections last year and took 9th place overall at state. Lanesboro’s Clay Schwichtenberg (86/81> 167) took fourth overall. He joined “long name” Fishbaugher in making state. Schwichtenberg went last year with the Burros’ 1A champion team. He was 20 strokes better than a year ago (187). Kingsland’s Kaden Rath (89/89 > 178) tied for seventh and Nick Eickhoff (89/90 > 179) took ninth place. They were the first two guys to not make the state cut. GMLO’s Taylor Glynn (97/83 > 180, 10th place), FC’s Aiden Arnold (95/87 > 182, 11th place), Lanesboro’s Jack Brogle (88/95 > 183, tie-12th), Dayton Haugen (97/90 > 187, tie-14th), and Kaden Stettler (97/90 > 187, tie-14th-tie) finished top 15. Glynn, Arnold, Haugen, and Stettler each had tougher Day 1s, before rebounding Day 2. Fifty-four guys competed at the two-day, 36-hole meet at Eastwood Golf Course.
