2022-2023 Wrestling Preview

Last season was again a strong year on the wrestling mats.  Chatfield was one win away from the 1A title, and finished as section runner-up (15-2).  They sent four guys to state.  Caledonia had a good team season (17-8) and sent five guys to state.  Both squads will again be potent.  LARP (15-12), GMLOS (11-13), and FCLMC (11-11) were right around .500 as teams.  The Bulldogs … [Read more...]

The Journal 11 cross country programs were again well represented (as a whole) at the 2022 State Cross County Meet in Northfield. All five sent at least one individual to compete. The cross-country season is taking shape. The five Journal-covered programs all have kids with realistic shots at state. Burro Boys, GMLO’s Glynn Highlight SEC Golf Meet

Boys golf was on display at the Southeast Conference Meet. Krissy Overland’s Lanesboro Burros (362) bested nearest foe Southland (376) for the league title, with Kingsland (403) taking third, G-E (426) fourth, GMLO (427) fifth, and Houston (554) sixth (of six complete teams). Grady Schott Claims State Title, Four Warriors Place

The 2022 state wrestling tournament saw 12 kids from Caledonia/Houston, Chatfield, and GMLOS in action. Included was the first girls Minnesota state wrestling tournament. Warriors Get Five to State Led by Ross’s Return Caledonia/Houston wrestling had a solid team season.  At the 1A individual tournament, Shea Mahoney’s group did better, getting five state entrants, the second most of any team (save 1A champ D-E).  The Warriors (186) actually bested D-E (184), Goodhue (180), and Chatfield (174) for the team title.  Brandon Ross’ return … [Read more...]

GMLOS gal wrestler Diann Smith took second place at the Section 1-4 girls tournament.  She qualified for the state girls meet.  Kaylee Ruberg scored 25 points including her 1,000th as R-P beat L-O 63-50.  Jordian Leahy had 33 points in a SG 74-63 win over L/P, and 20 in a 55-37 Lion win over Southland.  She hit 22 of 27 free throws in the games.  John Prestemon scored 20 points … [Read more...]
