Felony Charges
Sonny Ray Juday, 23, of Spring Valley, was charged in Fillmore County District Court on Monday, September 18, with one felony count of making terroristic threats.
According to the criminal complaint, Juday was a patron in the Coyote Club in Chatfield on September 9, 2006, when he allegedly tried to pass a small bag of marijuana to another person. The bag was confiscated by the club owner. Juday tried to take the marijuana back and a scuffle ensued with bouncers of the club. Juday was reported to have hit one of the bouncers. Police were called and Juday was handcuffed and arrested and placed in the squad car.
While the police officer was gathering evidence, Juday was able to slip the cuffs under his legs and reach through the window and open the door of the squad car. He then escaped and fled down the street. He was subsequently caught.
In addition to the felony charge, Juday faces nine misdemeanor counts, including obstructing the legal process, escape from custody, assault, fleeing a police officer, disorderly conduct, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Judge Robert Benson set bail at $5000 with conditions. Juday is presently being held at the Fillmore County Jail. His next court appearance is scheduled for September 25, 2006.
