Life is crazy. Time flies by and before you know it, it's been 2 months since you talked to one of your best friends who, when you were in college, you didn't go one single day without talking to. I find this happening way to often in my life. At one point a few friends and I had decided we'd take turns hosting a little girls get-together for dinner every once in a while for good food and gossip. Months later, life has gotten the better of us, and we have yet to make a second outing.
So, the other day, when a close friend said we should do supper some night to catch up, I made sure to make the time in my busy schedule to do just that. We decided to dine at the Highway 44 Bar & Grill in Mabel, a familiar favorite to us.
Un unspoken tradition that has begun, we started with ordering some jalapeno poppers as an appetizer. Those always seem to hit the spot for me. I'd take them over french fries any day. Another all-time favorite, I went with the patty melt for a sandwich. I love onions on anything and the caramelized onions with melty cheese, and a hamburger patty on rye bread was sure to put a smile on my face. The mushroom swiss burger and chicken sandwich on the plates around me looked just as tasty, too.
While there may have been silence around the table as we chowed down, the chatting and catching up was just what I needed to slow down the every day roller coaster of life. Taking a break from the usual hustle and bustle of work, laundry and cleaning the house for a meal and socializing with friends is something we should all make more time for. Life is short, so enjoy it. Head to the Highway 44 Bar & Grill when you're looking for good food and good company.
