The Kingsland School board approved the 2011-12 budget for Kingsland Public School in their meeting Monday, June 20.

Kathy Beevers, business manager, presented a detailed overview of the budget, which in spite declining enrollment, will result in revenue exceeding expenses by $46,445.

"In tough economic times, we were able to add and maintain our programs with the operational referendum," Superintendent John McDonald said. "We are waiting to see what the Minnesota legislature will do or not do."

"Financially, we are in pretty good shape," McDonald said. "We could get into the fall before we would need to borrow. We are taking every precaution that we can."

In other action, the board approved the use of school buses and vans for summer activities, using the most economical vehicle based on the number of students attending a given event. Each group will be responsible for providing a certified driver and covering their expense.

The next school board meeting will be Monday, July 18 at 5 p.m. in the district conference room.
