Felony Sentencing
Dean Allen Merkel, 42, of Spring Valley, was placed on probation for 15 years after pleading guilty in District Court to manufacture of methamphetamine. Judge Robert Benson sentenced Merkel to five years in prison, but stayed execution of sentencing. As part of the plea arrangement, all other charges were dismissed.
In addition, Benson ordered Merkel to serve 180 days in jail, with credit for 52 days served. He was also fined $4,000 and ordered to pay restitution.
Greg William Loveland, 24, of Peterson, was placed on five years probation after pleading guilty in District Court to felony assault related to an incident in Rushford. As part of the plea agreement, all other charges were dismissed.
Judge Robert Benson sentenced Loveland to 15 months in prison, with a stay of imposition of sentencing. Benson ordered Loveland to serve 120 days in jail, with credit for 52 days served. Loveland was fined $1500 and ordered to pay restitution.
