PRESTON - Members of the Fillmore Central School Board held a special meeting on March 12 to deal with a few important issues.
The first item was to hire Blaine Moe as the new Building and Grounds Supervisor. According to Superintendent Myrna Luehmann, four finalists were interviewed for the position. Things such as experience, a boiler's license and driving distance from home were looked at when hiring. The contract for Moe will have a 90-day probationary clause, and will be a one-year contract for the first year. Moe will be involved in hiring the rest of the maintenance crew over the next week or two.
"I think it's important to make this a successful tenure for Mr. Moe," said board member John Torgrimson. "We want to get off on the right foot, as far as relationships and scheduling, and by keeping the facilities committee active."
The meeting was closed while the school board considered disciplinary action against a high school student who violated the weapons policy. When the meeting re-opened, the school board voted to expel the student for the remainder of year, as per the recommendation of the administration in line with the school's zero tolerance policy.
In other business, Shannon Twait was hired as the B team softball coach.
