Kingsland will award construction bids in April

WYKOFF - Chairman Mitch Lentz updated the Kingsland School Board on pre-construction plans at their Friday, March 16 meeting, which lasted 35 minutes. Lentz said that a pre-bid meeting is planned for March 22 at 3:30 p.m. with bids due at the Kingsland District Office on April 10. The school board will award bids on April 16.
Construction on the 35,000 square foot addition to the high school will begin the day after school is out. Lentz said that the entire high school complex will be considered a construction site over the summer and considered off limits for captain's practices and other student activities.
• Principal Jim Hecimovich reported that elementary parent/teacher conferences would be on March 27 and 29. He also reported that 29 children are signed up for the Kindergarten Roundup on April 2.
"This is a little light, we hope to get around 40," Hecimovich said.
Hecimovich also reported that a committee at the middle school has been meeting to discuss the move of fifth graders to the Wykoff facility next year. Hecimovich said that they are considering re-structuring homerooms to facilitate study skills and self-esteem.
• The board recognized the actions of Morgan Zimmer, a senior, who raised $3,000 to purchase two Automated External Defribillators, one for the middle school and one for the high school.
Zimmer worked with various groups and businesses to raise the funds. She also hosted a pancake breakfast.
Other Business
• The board accepted the retirements of third grade teacher Mary Grems, middle school teacher Carol Helgerson and elementary librarian Judy Rose.
• The board approved the hiring of a curriculum coordinator/teacher.
• The board approved the hiring of spring sport assistant coaches:
• Baseball - Taren Jack, C.J. Boerger and Doug Bergey;
• Softball - Emily DeVries, Denise Montgomery and Al Williams;
• Track - Brad Erichsen and Todd Davis; and,
• Golf - John Jones and Brit Ofstedal.
The next meeting of the Kinglsand School Board is Monday, April 16 at 5:00 p.m. at the Kingsland Middle School in Wykoff.
