Felony Charges
Richard Lee Olson, 46, address unknown, was charged in Fillmore County District Court on Monday, April 16, 2007, with three felony counts of aggravated forgery, possession of counterfeit checks and theft by check.
According to the criminal complaint, it is alleged that Olson passed checks from an account in Olson's name at the Hi-Way Federal Credit Union of St. Paul at two Spring Valley stores on April 14, 2006. The account did not exist and the checks, in excess of $400, were returned to the stores marked, Unable to Locate Account.
Olson is presently incarcerated at the St. Cloud Correctional Facility on charges from another county. Court records indicate that Olson has 24 aliases and has several forgery convictions in Minnesota over the years.
Olson is represented by public defender Fred Suhler, Jr. His next court appearance is scheduled for April 20, 2007.
Felony Sentencing
• Michael William Hahn, 54, of Spring Grove, pled guilty in District Court to one felony count of issuing a bad check.
According to court records, on November 10, 2005, Hahn issued a check drawn on the Eitzen bank to a Spring Valley equipment dealer to prevent repossession of a tractor that he had bought. The check turned out to be bad.
Judge Robert Benson ordered a stay of imposition for 5 years on the condition that Hahn comply with the terms of his probation. He was also given 30 days electronic home monitoring, ordered to pay $1,000 fine, and $4,985 in restitution. Hahn must also write a letter of apology to the victim.
• Kevin Lee Hanson, 37, of Preston, was found guilty by a jury of two felony counts of burglary and making terroristic threats. He was also found guilty of three misdemeanor counts of violating an order for protection, domestic assault and trespassing.
According to the criminal complaint, on May 25, 2006, Hanson broke into a woman's home in Preston, who had an order for protection against the defendant, made terroristic threats and would not leave when asked. He was later apprehended at another Preston residence.
Judge Robert Benson sentenced Hanson on the two felony charges.
Hanson was sentenced to 18 months in prison for the burglary charge, with a stay of execution for 10 years. He was placed on probation and ordered to serve 365 days in jail, of which 90 days will be served immediately and 30 days will be served every other month unless the parole officer recommends to the court that the 30 day segment be commuted.
Hanson was also ordered to pay a $2000 fine, submit to random alcohol testing and not have any contact with the victim until he has completed a domestic violence program.
In addition, Hanson was sentenced to 15 months in prison for making terroristic threats, with a stay of execution for 5 years. Both sentences are to be served concurrently.
