Kingsland rejects bids for new building

WYKOFF - The Kingsland School Board has decided to wait until next Wednesday, April 25 to take action on the bids for the new building. The architect appeared before the board and said that the bids had exceeded the budget amount for the project and some cuts had to be made. The Board had been advised of the overage a few days ago and suggested cuts to the architect. A meeting will be set up between the concerned parties and see where the cuts can be made without hurting the project. A special meeting will be called on Wednesday, April 25 to accept the bids. When asked about the amount over budget, Board Chair Mitch Lenz said it was "about 10 percent".

Tewell Environmental was awarded the bid for asbestos removal from the current buildings that will be destroyed. The total bid was $118,000.00.

The Board adopted a resolution directing the administration to make recommendations for reductions in programs and positions. In all, 13 programs or positions would be reduced:

1. Reduce 3rd Grade by 1 FTE

2. Reduce Kindergarten by .8 FTE

3. Reduce 7-8 Choir/Music by .5 FTE

4. Reduce 4-8 Special Education by .5 FTE

5. Reduce 5th Grade by .34 FTE

6. Reduce 6th Grade by .66 FTE

7. Reduce K-8 Computer by .66 FTE

8. Reduce 5-8 Art by .17 FTE

9. Reduce 6-8 Math by .33 FTE

10. Reduce 7-8 English by .17 FTE

11. Reduce 7-8 Social Studies by .17 FTE

12. Reduce 7-8 Science by .17 FTE

13. Reduce K-4 Physical Education by .2 FTE

Termination and Non Renewal of two teachers were approved. They are Brian Mueller and Jeanette Burns.

Rachel Welsh was placed on Unrequested Leave of Absence.

Three resignations were approved: Those are, Heather Tucke, Angie Worlie and Sheryl Burke.

The next meeting will be Wednesday, April 25 to accept the building bids and then the regular meeting on Monday, May 21, 2007.
