On June 27 - July 1, 2011, the youth Bible quiz team of the Fillmore Free Methodist Church placed third in a Senior Teen Veteran Division at the National Bible Quiz Finals at Spring Arbor University in Spring Arbor, Michigan. About 500 teenagers and adults from across the United States competed on 92 youth teams, jumping off electronic seats to answer Bible questions about the Gospel of John. Quizzing competitions were held simultaneously in 41 locations across the college campus.
The Fillmore team of Katie Roberts and Corrin Lee was seeded 11th after the first two days of preliminary round robin competition. Then, when the double elimination competition began, this team had wins over Gowanda, NY; Rochester, PA; and Albion, NY. Later the team from Albion (which they had beaten earlier) eliminated Fillmore from the tournament.
Katie served as team captain and led the scoring for her team with 1,630 points, including 12 perfect rounds. In the Individual Competition, Katie placed 10th in the nation. Janet Hopper served as the Fillmore coach, and Mike Hopper and son Stephen served as quizmasters during the event. In addition, the team of Mike Hopper, Stephen Hopper, and Susanna Hopper placed first in the adult division.
Around the end of August, a new season will start as the youth study the Biblical books of Hebrews and First and Second Peter. If you would like to know more about Bible quizzing, please contact Pastor Mike Hopper of the Fillmore Church at swimfast@hmtel.com or call (507) 352-5455.
