The R-P school board is diligently moving ahead with their plan to have a new superintendent in place this summer. Nineteen candidates applied for the position; two pulled out recently, presumably having found employment elsewhere.

Individually, board members each spent several hours poring over the nineteen applicants' materials and scoring applicants in numerous areas, such as experience, education, community involvement, and accomplishments.

In most instances, the board seemed to have similar opinions on candidates, but in some they did not. In a public two hour meeting Monday, June 4, they discussed candidates at length, using only designations such as "Candidate A, Candidate B, etc."

By the end of that meeting, they had hammered out a list of six candidates to interview:

• Bruce Carrier, currently Superintendent/HS Principal/Athletic Director for the Lyman school district in Presho, SD, had an interview Wednesday, June 6 at 5:30 pm. Carrier received his Specialist degree from the University of South Dakota-Vermillion, in 1995

• Larry Swanson, District Administrator for Norman County East, Minnesota, was interviewed Wednesday, June 6 at 7:30 pm. Swanson's Specialist degree is from the University Wisconsin-Superior, 1990.

• Charles Ehler, the current Elementary/Middle School Principal at South Winneshiek, IA, will be interviewed Monday, June 11 at 5:30 pm. Ehler's Specialist degree is from Winona State University, 1992.

• William Delaney, currently Superintendent and K-12 Principal for Lake Benton Public Schools, Minnesota, has an interview scheduled for Monday, June 11 at 7:30 pm. Delaney has a Specialist degree from University of South Dakota-Vermillion, SD.

• Gary Kuphal, the current Superintendent for Southland School District, will be interviewed Tuesday, June 12 at 5:30 pm. Kuphal received a Specialist degree from Mankato State, 1986.

• Leland Kulland, Superintendent at Cambell-Tintah School District, Minnesota, will be the final interview on Tuesday, June 12 at 7:30 pm. Kulland's Specialist degree is from Winona State, 2006.

All interviews are set to take place in the second floor high school biology room. The public is welcome to attend. The board hopes to make an offer of employment before the end of this month.
