At the June 11 council meeting, the Spring Valley City Council decided to update the Solid Waste Contract by putting it out on a "Request For Proposal" this fall. This will permit the City to advertise for other companies besides Waste Management to submit their bids to provide services for city residents. It's been over 10 years since competitive bidding was permitted on the contract and council members voiced their approval in the action. Various members said they had been contacted by citizens because they had not been able to contact Waste Management. Currently payment to Waste Management is made through Public Utilities and Mayor Struzyk said they want to get out of the business of collecting these fees. The proposed contract will include having the company collect fees and to accommodate the clean up day in the Spring and leaf pickup.

Approval was also given by the council to hire Cindi Johnson of the Grand Meadow area pending successful completion of the EMT program.

The council also approved liquor license renewals to VFW, Tooties and TJ liquors. The Old Tyme Saloon has new owners, Lesa Finley, and the Liquor License application will be approved effective June 18.

All members of the council were present for the meeting.
