SPRING VALLEY - It was a night of financial housekeeping at the Spring Valley City Council at their June 25 meeting.

Mike Bubany of David Drown Associates presented to the Council the results of the bond sale for the Stormwater/Sewer project that is currently underway. United Banker's Bank had the lowest interest rate on the $930,000 sale. Their bid was at 4.3996%. The sources of the funds for the project will be the bond issue of $930,000 and the storm sewer cash fund of $65,000. The payment total through 2/1/2023 will be $1,297,076. The low bid was accepted. Administrator Deb Zimmer says the project is pretty close to being on schedule.

The Council approved closing out the ambulance fund deficit of $577.00 and $105.00 for the library construction fund.

Previously the council had agreed that they would ask for Requests for Proposals from area garbage haulers to advertise for bids for contract renewal in November. Mayor Struzyk said that he and Deb Zimmer had met with Waste Management, the current contract holder and that there are some things that the company can do to meet some of the needs of the City. Requests for Proposals will be delayed until another meeting with Waste Management which will be set up for the week of July 2.

Some decisions were made on the upcoming Wilderfest Celebration. The Council approved a fireworks permit for Friday night and the closing of Vine Alley for a street dance. The parade route will be the same as last year and Washington Avenue from Franklin to Main and Main to Courtland will be closed for the soap box derby. Park Street from Washington to Hudson will also be closed for the derby.

There were limited reports from department heads as only Leonard Leutink was present. He spoke briefly about the trees that were blown down as a result of the last wind storm and that he had Olson Tree Service come in and clean them up. Jim Cooper did not attend the meeting because he was ill. All members of the council were in attendance.
