Felony Sentencing
Benjamin Wayne Blaschka, 31, of Winona, was sentenced by Judge Robert Benson in District Court on Tuesday, September 11, to 22 months in prison after being convicted by a jury of failing to register as a predatory offender. He was given credit for time served.
According to court records, Blaschka was living with his sister in Rushford and working at a local bar. As a Level II Sex Offender, Blaschka is required to report a change of address and employment to the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension.
Chong Hua Vang, 54, of St. Paul, pled guilty in District Court to possession of a controlled substance - opium. Vang apparently used the opium as a pain medication for headaches.
Vang was arrested in September 2006 by Conservation Officers who were inspecting a campsite in rural Lanesboro.
During sentencing on Monday, September 10, Judge Benson stayed adjudication of the guilty plea for two years, placed Vang on probation and fined him $500.
