On August 16, 2011, the Fillmore Soil and Water Conservation District will be hosting a field day to explore forestry practices and features along the Lost Creek Hiking Trail. Those attending the field day will see various forestry practices and have them explained while walking a mile of the trail. Presenters are Mitch Gilbert, Forestry Consultant, and Jim Edgar, DNR Forester. The field day will begin at Groen Park in Chatfield at 6:30pm.

This is a chance for woodland owners to visit a managed forest and to see forestry practices and features firsthand with foresters and fellow landowners. This is a great opportunity for landowners interested in managing their forests or for anyone who wants to take an educational walk through the woods. Forestry practices and natural features that will be discussed include: girdling, salvage logging, wolf trees left for habitat, worm invasion front, Decorah shale layer, water bars and cross sloped trails, and a swing-away bridge. Everyone is welcome to attend.

Directions to Groen Park: At the stoplights in Chatfield, go west on County Road 2 a quarter of a mile, and Groen Park will be on the left side of the road as you are leaving town.
