Lanesboro woman gets ten years probation for theft

PRESTON - Shayla Christine Gehrke, 37, of Lanesboro, was sentenced on Wednesday, December 12, 2007, to ten years probation after pleading guilty to stealing more than $17,000 from her employer. An additional 11 counts of theft were dismissed as part of the plea agreement.

According to court records, Gehrke wrote checks on company accounts belonging to Fillmore Family Resources in Preston between May 5, 2006 and March 29, 2007. The thefts were used to pay personal expenses, including utility bills, day care costs, car repairs and telephone bills.

Fillmore County District Judge James Fabian sentenced Gehrke to 366 days in prison, but stayed imposition of sentencing for ten years. He ordered her to serve 60 days in jail with credit given for time served. Of the remaining 40 days, 20 must be served in jail, while another 20 days may be converted to 40 days electronic home monitoring. She will be allowed work release through the Huber law.

Fabian also ordered Gehrke to pay restitution of $17,074. She must begin serving her jail sentence on January 4, 2008.

Gehrke was represented in court by Attorney Tedman Hiem. Jeffery Hill of the Olmsted County Attorney's office represented the State.

Felony Charges

• Justin Brian Pittelko, 26, of Ostrander, was charged in District Court with one felony count of making terroristic threats related to an incident in Ostrander on October 31, 2007. He is also charged with three misdemeanors, including assault, disorderly conduct, and interfering with a 911 call.

According to the criminal complaint, it is alleged that Pittelko punched and grabbed the throat of a woman who had ended a relationship with him. It is further alleged that Pittelko threatened to kill the woman if she called police.

Pittelko was free on his own recognizance after posting $5000 conditional bail. His next scheduled court appearance is December 17, 2007.
