Decorah, Iowa - Luther College President Richard Torgerson has announced that staff members Marsha Wenthold and Jon Lund are the recipients of the Luther Staff Excellence Award for 2011.
The Staff Excellence Award recognizes exemplary performance by staff members who consistently excel in their positions and demonstrate integrity and a strong commitment to the mission and values of Luther.
Wenthold is a Luther human resources assistant and Lund is the executive director of the Center for Global Learning and International Admissions.
As part of the award, each recipient will be granted an individualized educational opportunity, funded by the college. The college works with award winners to pursue an opportunity in an area of special interest.
Past winners have participated in January-term study-abroad programs, spring break service-learning trips, summer courses off campus, Luther music ensemble tours, unique professional development opportunities, or semester-long courses on campus.
Staff Excellence Award candidates are nominated by their staff and faculty colleagues, and recipients are selected by the college administrative and support staff committees.
Award recipients are chosen for outstanding performance of their professional duties to further the mission of the college. Award winners have consistently performed at a level above and beyond normal job requirements.
Wenthold joined Luther in 1989 working as a traffic clerk and secretary. During her career, she has worked in facilities services, financial services, and since 2003, in human resources.
President Torgerson said that her co-workers and colleagues at Luther describe her as positive, winsome and a gentle spirit who deeply cares for others.
Lund joined Luther in 1995 as the director of residence life. During his Luther career, he has served as director of the career development center, vice president of enrollment and marketing, executive director of international admissions and college marketing, and associate dean for student life and international recruitment.
In June, Lund assumed the new position of executive director of the center for global learning and international admissions.
President Torgerson said that Lund's colleagues at Luther laud his tireless commitment to the college. They describe him as dedicated, knowledgeable, articulate and a selfless ambassador for Luther.
