Spring Valley City Council holds brief meeting

Fri, Mar 14th, 2008
Posted in Government

It was one of the shortest meetings in months as the Spring Valley City Council breezed through a handful of agenda items.

Liquor License Application

An addition was made to the recently approved Liquor License for Johnny Ringo's. It was amended to include all three buildings including the old Duber's Variety Store.

Squad Car Quotes

The Council accepted the low bid of $19,648.85 from Zeimetz Motors for a new squad car. The opportunity to bid also included Peterson Motors for $22,511.00 and Marchant Motors was $21,303.00

Farmer's Market

Kelly Davidson of the Prosper Valley Farm submitted a proposal to the City Council to start a Farmer's Market. He was asking that the market be on city property in South Park from 4pm until 6pm starting on the first Friday in June through the last Friday in October.

There would be a maximum of ten vendors at the site. The proposal also asked that one or two vendors would use electrical outlets in that location and that signs be placed at one location in town and that there was a mention on the City's web page.

There would be a membership fee of $20 per season. There has to be a proof of insurance and vendors would clean up after the event each week. It would be restricted to Fillmore or Mower counties.

The council discussed the proposal and felt it should be referred to the Chamber of Commerce for their sponsorship.

City Administrator Deb Zimmer presented a model of a park shelter which had been constructed by Nub Skaran. The shelter has two wings that could accommodate wheel in picnic tables for events. There was no cost estimate on the structure but there was a general nodding of the heads that it would look good in the area near the creek on Washington. The Council will look at the matter again in the future.

Meetings coming up in the next Month:

On March 24th at 6pm there will be another meeting regarding repair/replace of the City Swimming Pool.

The first County Flood Mitigation Plan Public meeting will be held in Spring Valley on March 26th at 6pm.

The Board of Review will be April 14th at 6:30pm and the Special Assessment Hearing for the proposed summer construction projects will be April 16th at 6pm.
