Felony Charges

• Santiago Jaimez Garcia, 29, of Spring Valley, was charged on Tuesday, March 18, with fourth degree assault, a felony, after spitting on a jailer while being charged at the Fillmore County Jail.

According to court records, Garcia was stopped for a traffic violation on March 15 and arrested on an outstanding warrant. It is alleged that Garcia had been drinking alcohol and law enforcement officers arrested him on gross misdemeanor driving under the influence charges. It is further alleged that Garcia threatened officers when he was being placed in the Fillmore County Jail and spit on the jailer. He was later taken to detox.

Judge Robert Benson set conditional bail for Garcia at $5,000. He remains in custody at the Fillmore County Jail awaiting his next court appearance scheduled for Monday, March 24, 2008.
