The Preston City Council wrapped up its business on April 21 in a mere seven minutes. David Harrison was absent. City Administrator Joe Hoffman explained that there was a request to again have the bike races ran against the clock on Saturday, May 15, at 1:00 p.m. during Trout Days. The city will need to sweep the trail, provide 'cones' and responsible people for safety at street crossings. The bike race to be ran on the intercity trail was approved.

• The council approved a resolution to participate in the Safe and Sober Campaign from October 1, 2008, through September 30, 2009. The resolution authorizes the police chief to enter into an agreement with Fillmore County which will serve as the fiscal agent. The grant money is made available by the National Highway Safety Administration and is coordinated by the Minnesota Department of Public Safety. The program has been renewed annually. It allows for police departments to have their officers put in extra hours to enforce seatbelt and speeding laws and to keep intoxicated drivers off the road.

• Councilman Heath Mensink recommended that Dean Aug be appointed to fill the vacancy on the Park Board. Mensink said that Aug had attended the last meeting and was interested in serving on the board. The council approved Aug for the position.
