PRESTON - Two Chatfield minors, 14 and 15 years of age, were released into the custody of their parents after appearing in Fillmore County District Court on Tuesday, August 19, 2008 on burglary and car theft charges.

Another person, 17 year old Cody Lee Bartlett of Stewartville, who is staying in Chatfield with a relative, was also charged with two counts of burglary and theft of a motor vehicle, all felonies. Judge James Fabian, appearing via ITV in Caledonia for the detention hearing, placed Bartlett into the custody of the Many Rivers Detention Center in Rochester until his next court appearance on Monday, August 25.

According to court records, it is alleged that the three young men entered a home in Chatfield on August 17, took $60 in cash as well as a vehicle belonging to the resident. The resident was away camping at the time, only to return on August 18 to find both doors to his home wide open and his car gone. The car is valued at more than $1000.

Early Sunday morning, the vehicle was abandoned after being driven into a ditch. Another vehicle was then stolen from a country residence near where the first car was left. This second vehicle was then driven to Rochester where it was later abandoned.

In addition to the Fillmore County charges, Bartlett has additional charges pending in Olmsted County.

Bartlett was represented in the detention hearing by Attorney Fred Suhler, Jr. Assistant Fillmore County Attorney Andrew J. Koslowski represented the state.
