The first Kingsland School District School Board meeting was held Monday night, August 18 in the new High School cafeteria.

The building Project Update was given by Pat Simpkins of the DLR Group. He said that the project is winding down to the final finishing and staff will be moving in next Tuesday getting ready for school to start in two weeks. Currently asphalt parking lots are being surfaced and then there will be seeding over the weekend.

Bus Schedules

Public comment found Karen Grandall, Kathy Baarsch and Kathy O'Connell talking about the bus schedules and recommending that once the High School students are picked up at their homes that they be dropped off at the High School in Spring Valley rather than being transported to Wykoff and then brought back. Their observation is that it would give the students more time for study in the morning and would be a means of saving energy by perhaps eliminating one bus.

Fall Athletics

John Fenske reported on the athletic program and that football is shaping up from last year. There are 14 more students this year as compared to last year.

The Board approved Assistant Coaches:

• For football John Jones was named Assistant Varsity Coach. Chad Strike will coach B squad and 9th grade. Aaron Janssen and Todd Davis were named for Jr. High.

• Volleyball Assistant Coaches are Laurie Hendrickson B Squad, Kim Bly 9th grade, Carrie Boerger Jr. High and Denise Montgomery Jr High.

Other Business

Recognition was given to a recent $250 donation in memory of Laura Mangan's mother for playground equipment and the library.
