Felony Sentencing

Scott Joseph Laganiere, 48, of Lanesboro, was sentenced in Fillmore County District Court on Monday, August 25, 2008 to three years probation after pleading guilty to assaulting a police officer, a felony. As part of a plea agreement, all other charges were dismissed.

According to court records, Laganiere was involved in a disturbance at his dwelling on October 24, 2006. Laganiere admitted to being intoxicated at the time. At the time of his arrest, Laganiere resisted arrest and spit on a police officer.

Judge Robert Benson sentenced Laganiere to 366 days in prison, but stayed execution of sentencing for three years. In addition, Laganiere was ordered to pay $500 fine, serve 30 days in jail with credit given for seven days served, and perform 100 hours of community service. Laganiere was also ordered to attend AA meetings.

Attorney Fred Suhler, Jr. represented Laganiere in court.
