Gary Gunderson, County Commissioner District 5

My accomplishments include:

• Carpenter in AFL-CIO union;

• Operating a farm and home retail store;

• Owning and operated farms;

• Building contractor which includes building commercial agricultural structures and houses;

• Serving on church council;

• Serving on school board;

• Legion member;

• Held office in two farm organizations;

• Purchasing and selling of real estate:;

• Owning, operating and maintaining apartment building;

• Bridge builder for Minnowa Construction in Harmony building bridges of all sizes.

I have a great deal of knowledge, experience and common sense to make a great and effective commissioner for the people of Fillmore County.

My goal and objective is to make positive changes to benefit the people of Fillmore County. In talking with voters in my district and other districts, I have found the main concern to be zoning laws and reorganize others. It is a shame we are paying such high real estate taxes and yet the zoning office continues to regulate our property. We need to look into the issue of high property taxes and make updates and modifications that are necessary to lower these taxes. I have studied both sides of this issue and will work with other commissioners to get the people's needs back on track. I realize there are many important issues that need attention and once elected I will strive to address them.

Please vote for me on November 4, 2008. Thank you for your support.Manager.

I also served on the Canton City Council for 8 years until being elected Fillmore County Commissioner in 2001. While being on the County Board I have also served on the Zumbro Valley Mental Health Board and also held the position of President for 2 years, County Board Chair for 2 years, member of the Association of MN Counties serving on the association's statewide Transportation Committee, member of the Dodge-Fillmore-Olmsted Community Corrections Joint Powers Board and various other committees county wide such as Public Health, Fillmore/Houston Joint Public Health Board and also served as Chairman 2 years, Technology Committee, County Emergency Management Committee and the Jail Board.

Some of the projects we have completed since taking office with Fillmore County have been: updating of the County Comprehensive Plan while still updating current zoning ordinances, the combination of the Lenora and Harmony Highway Shops into a new building in Canton and county wide rural addressing and numbering.

Some of the current issues that face the board are unfunded state mandates, inadequate funding for transportation & bridges and land use/zoning.

The last eight years have presented many challenges, and as a board we have worked well together but, we still have many uphill challenges ahead, and I would be honored to represent District 5 again if elected for the next 4 years as Fillmore County Commissioner.
