Posted in Government

The Preston City Council breezed through a light agenda at their November 3 meeting. Robert Sauer was absent. A resolution setting the assessment hearing for Thursday November 20 was approved. The hearing will be combined with the regular second monthly meeting of the city council in the council chambers. City Administrator Joe Hoffman noted that the 2008 improvements only involved seven parcels.

Other Business

• Agreements for FEMA flood recovery grants totaling nearly $200,000 for both city and utility work were discussed. Hoffman requested and received approval for Mayor Kurt Reicks and the city staff to sign the agreements. The monies are for damages incurred in the 2008 flooding.

• Council members voted to solicit audit proposals for the 2008 audit. Smith Schafer, Rochester, completed the 2007 audit. Pam Ristau was at the meeting. She had submitted a proposal for the 2007 audit. The council decided to pass on an option offered by Smith Schafer for 2008.

• A pay request from the contractors working on the 2008 Street and Utility Improvements was approved in the amount of $17,855.58. This is the third payment. These funds were held back earlier because of dissatisfaction with the work on Mill Street and St. Anthony Street. Repairs have been completed to the engineer's and the council's satisfaction. A 5% retainage is still being held for more than $13,000.

• The council voted to solicit proposals and quotes for the 2009 newspaper and city attorney.
