The Harmony Community Chest is starting its solicitation campaign early this year. Due to the difficulty in recruiting and retaining door-to-door solicitors, the Community Chest board members are trying a new approach that entails solicitation letters and envelopes being sent out with Harmony's utility bills. Hopefully, people will respond with donations by mail and the door-to-door solicitation will be needed only for those who did not send in a contribution.
In its fifty-eighth year of existence, the Harmony Community Chest is a small town version of United Way. Our purpose is to collect and distribute donations to a number of deserving groups, including local organizations. With one donation, people are able to give to the following groups: Camp Courage Center, United Cerebral Palsy of MN, Girl Scouts of MN and WI, SE MN Chapter of the Red Cross, Juvenile Diabetes, M.S. Society, MN Chapter, Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, Salvation Army of Fillmore County, N. Central Arthritis Foundation, Boy Scouts of America Gamehaven Council, Midwest Cancer Society, and the Fillmore County DAC. Local groups that receive funds are the Harmony Ambulance, the Harmony Library, Harmony Girl Scouts, and Harmony Boy Scouts. 99% of the money donated goes to these organizations, with 1% being used to finance the costs of our drive.
If you do not receive a Harmony utility bill and wish to make a donation, you may do so by sending your contribution to: Harmony Community Chest, 225 3rd St. SW, Harmony, MN 55939. Indicate with your donation if you would like a receipt.
Officers of the Community Chest Board include Carroll Armstrong, chairperson, Carol Rhodes, secretary, and Kay Himlie, treasurer. Other board members are Phil Burkholder, Diane Strahl, Bonnie Bakken, Muriel Gunderson, Gerri Ehler, Pam Hoppe, Renee Reicks, and Renee Olson. If you are interested in helping us, we still have openings for four more board members.
The financial support of Harmony and the surrounding community is vital to the continued existence of our Community Chest. Please respond to our solicitation with a donation to support all of the groups mentioned above.
